For power generation in pumped storage power plants, manual and/or automatic filters are used for bearings on
turbines or pumps that are sealed or cooled with water. In order to protect the bearings and seals as best as
possible and to reduce wear, a high level of water purity must be ensured.

For a pumped storage power plant at the Eder in Hessen, D&D has commissioned a filter station consisting of
two automatic backwashable filter units, type Filterautomat DDF, (coarse and fine filtration with 3 mm and 200 µm).
The mechanical seal water of the turbine and the control water of the pump are filtered.

The Filterautomats DN 200 / PN 63 were mounted in series on a frame to save space.
This automatically backwashable stage filtration replaces the previous manual filters and thus minimises costly
maintenance and servicing work.

The special feature of this filter station is the design for alternating stress due to possible pressure fluctuations
(hydraulic short circuit) and the welded steel construction for pressure stage PN 63.
