In the aluminium industry, various aluminium minerals are used to produce so-called primary aluminium for processing industries. This aluminium is used, for example, in the automotive or packaging industries. The possible applications are almost unlimited.
The production or extraction of pure aluminium is carried out by several chemically and thermally coordinated processes. During these processes, an enormous amount of heat is required to separate all unnecessary components from the aluminium.
To prevent individual machines from overheating in this high temperature range, reliable and suitable cooling with liquid is necessary. This was also the case for a well-known manufacturer in the aluminium industry in France.
Here, collected rainwater in combination with river water is piped into the factory via pipelines in order to fulfil the above-mentioned cooling purposes via heat exchangers.
To ensure that the heat exchangers permanently guarantee reliable heat dissipation and do not clog, filtration of the rainwater and river water is indispensable. With this task the above mentioned customer approached DANGO & DIENENTHAL Filtertechnik. By two automatic filter machines type DDF DN 500, which reach backwash speeds of up to 10 m/sec, reliable backwash filters for particularly dirty liquids were used on site. The filter automats filter the pre-defined quantity in order to guarantee the continuous heat transfer of the heat exchanger.
By using these automatic filters, the maintenance intervals on the heat exchangers could be significantly reduced.
Thus, both the costs for the time of maintenance could be reduced and the productivity of the aluminium production could be increased.
